Laura is an accomplished costume cutter and maker with a rich background in the film and theatre industry.

Laura brings extensive experience in pattern cutting, grading and constructing costumes that span both historical and modern designs.

Her work has encompassed a broad range of styles including men’s’ and women’s costumes with specializations in modern, historical and fantasy. She is an experienced costume cutter and maker, with wide ranging experience of costume making for both men’s and women’s costumes including experience with modern, historical and fantasy construction. She also has extensive fitting, alterations, maintenance, dressing and de-rigging, continuity, and budgetary experience for both low- and high-end productions.

She is confident tailoring, with corsetry and sewing multiples in a production line as well as using and maintaining a wide range of both industrial and domestic machinery.

Due to her experience, she is very flexible with the way she works, and can take on additional roles as well as managing her time effectively for both the smooth running of a production and in the most cost-effective way.

She is passionate about creating an inclusive, creative environment in the spaces she works.

Laura’s Skills

  • Pattern cutting and Grading. Laura has extensive experience in creating precise and detailed patterns, often using her personal research library. She can also utilise extant pattern resources to cut historical patterns to then grade and fit the modern body.

  • Costume Making. Laura is a very confident stitcher and costume builder. She has decades of experience in both constructing and advising others in constructing high-quality costumes for modern, historical and fantasy productions. Her experience includes- but is not limited to- tailoring, corsetry, historical sewing techniques, hand finishing techniques, creating unusual and fantasy pieces and working closely with Designers and production team to realise the designs. She also has extensive experience in producing multiples for crowd.

  • Supervising and team management, with several years experience in Workroom management and supervision.

  • Fittings and Alterations. Laura is confident in managing and assisting during fittings and making alterations as needed.

  • Costume Maintenance and Continuity, with experience in maintaining costumes for a run, using apps/programs to track continuity etc and managing costumes during filming.

  • Key Costumer, with particular experience in being flexible whilst managing time effectively. Laura is able to assist in fittings, in the workroom, sourcing and buying and on-set assisting with other costume staff and cast as needed

  • Script analysing and breakdown.

  • Budget management and financial records keeping

  • Dressing.

  • Sourcing and buying of fabrics and trims, with a vast knowledge of suppliers and wholesalers.

  • Laura also holds a UK drivers licence and has her own car. It’s called Viola.
